CISA, NIST, and NSA Urge Organizations to Prepare for Post-Quantum Cryptography
Quantum-Resistant Algorithms Essential to Protect Systems
Immediate Action Required to Implement Transition Timelines
The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), and the National Security Agency (NSA) have issued a joint warning urging organizations to begin preparing for the implementation of post-quantum cryptography (PQC) to protect their systems against potential quantum attacks.
Quantum computers have the potential to break the encryption algorithms currently used by most organizations, making it essential to transition to quantum-resistant algorithms as soon as possible. CISA's PQC Initiative will coordinate efforts with interagency and industry partners to unify the migration process.
Organizations are advised to start planning and conducting their migration to PQC now, as it is a complex and time-consuming process. NIST has published a paper outlining the transition timelines and strategies for protecting systems against quantum attacks.
Failure to prepare for the quantum-safe migration could leave organizations vulnerable to cyberattacks that could compromise sensitive data, disrupt critical infrastructure, and cause significant financial losses.
